The first time Tyler kissed me we were at a 4th of July party together. Aw.
We have been trying to relax and stay in the air conditioning of our homes, or the mall, because poor Madds has a bronchitis thing going on, which caused her to have an asthma attack Saturday afternoon. We were at my mom's house for a BBQ and she was coughing/crying non-stop. Weezing and telling me that her "belly was hurting". I layed down with her and she fell asleep, but her breaths were still short and gaspy. I called her Ped's office and left a message for the on-call Dr. He called back, she was awake by then and her breathing had gotten shorter and she was crying harder. The Dr. told us to bring her to the Emergency Room.
I told her we were going to the Dr. so that she could feel better and she actually
wanted to go. (she hates going to the dr.) She immediately grabbed my hand and said "bye everyone, going to the Dr."...
You know how emergency room visit's go. We registered her and she was seen by a nurse who admitted her. We waited in the waiting room for an hour and they called her in. Another nurse looked at her in the room, which was freezing cold and Maddie didn't like this at all. She would not sit with me on the bed. She started crying again, much harder this time, which made it almost impossible for her to breathe..... This was probably the most scared I've ever been in my life. She went back and forth from me and Tyler, trying to get comfortable. I could tell she was in pain and there was nothing I could do for her. Another hour later, the asswipe Dr. finally arrived (whom she hated) and listened to her lungs, told me they were clear and he couldn't tell if she was weezing because she was crying so hard, or if she was having an asthma attack. I told him it was obviously the latter and looked at me like I was a ridiculous mother. Then she vomited all over the place and I gave him the look of "do something about this now or I'll fucking kill you". He ordered her tylenol with codine and an x-ray. Things went rather quickly after that. She hated the x-rays. They came back fine. The tylenol kicked in and she was able to sleep for a good hour and a half. The Dr. came back in to check her while she was asleep and he got a good listen to her lungs. Her breaths were so short I wondered how she was sleeping and there was a deep weezing sound with every breath. He called for Respiratory to come down and give her a breathing treatment and a dose of a steroid. Both worked immediately. She woke up awhile later and was happy. She could breathe finally.
They released us after 6 hours and told us that she had an asthma attack. We were sent home with inhalers and a steroid prescription. Apparently they will not diagnose a child of her age with asthma, since so many outgrow it or only have a few episodes in their lives. I have never had asthma, nor has anyone I know. This is all new to me.
She is a happy girl now. The inhalers and the medication have stirred up the shit in her lungs and she has a nasty cough. But, she can breathe.
